Governors wanted!

New governors needed!

As an Academy, Steiner Academy Bristol is ultimately run by a board of governors. This is a volunteer group who oversee the long-term development of the school, hold the Principal and senior staff to account and hold the final responsibility for the work of the school.

Our current governing body is comprised of members of the original steering group that developed our Free School bid, enabling the school to be set up in the first place. Now that the school is up and running, it's time to expand the group and to bring in some more specific expertise to ensure that we can deliver consistently outstanding teaching and learning.

We are currently holding elections for two parent governors, but alongside that, we are looking for four new governors with professional experience in education, from both the Steiner and mainstream sectors.

You can download a job description for the role here.

The role

We are seeking 4 new Governors who can add experience and knowledge of teaching and learning to our Board of Governors. We are seeking individuals with a mix of skills and expertise, including (but not exclusively) in the following areas –

  • Steiner curriculum and pedagogy (early years, middle and/or upper school)
  • Leadership and management in mainstream education
  • School improvement, evaluation and Ofsted
  • Special Education Needs
  • Outdoor learning
  • Therapeutic and holistic education and learning

Whilst we are looking for teaching and learning expertise, the role of a school Governor is a generic one, with all Governor’s taking responsibility for every aspect of the school’s performance and development. You can find out more about being a school governor from the National Governors Association (
